Vineyard Area
Drawn from vines planted up to about 15 miles off the coast

Soil
Goldridge sandy loam — the most celebrated soil in the region, particularly around Sebastopol and the Freestone/Occidental area. It's well-draining, low in nutrients, and forces vines to struggle, producing small, concentrated berries. It's a fine-grained sandy loam of marine sedimentary origin. Fractured sandstone and shale — particularly on hillside sites, where roots penetrate deep into rocky substrate.
